There’s been a lot of news swirling this week around EA Sports’ upcoming college football video game. The biggest of which is the withdrawal of the Brandr Group’s lawsuit against Electronic Arts and One Team Partners.
The short version of the story is this: One Team Partners and Electronic Arts negotiated a deal that would pay players a flat $500 yearly fee in exchange for their name/image/likeness (NIL) to be featured in their College Football video game.
Brandr Group which is a competing company, filed a lawsuit saying that this agreement was circumventing college athletes’ rights to negotiate their own payment. $500 per player seemed low.
This lawsuit caused some people to speculate that the game would be delayed further past the announced summer 2024 release date.
Anyway, Brandr Group and One Team Partners reached a settlement and the lawsuit has been dropped. Since that has been resolved an EA spokesman reaffirmed the Summer 2024 release date
“We’re pleased to move on from these claims and look forward to delivering EA SPORTS College Football in Summer 2024.”
Players will still have the ability to opt into the game and receive their payment and our expectation is the vast majority of them will.
So that’s one more potential obstacle removed from making EA Sports College Football 25 as realistic as possible.
