EA Sports is in the process of collecting audio and visual assets for their upcoming College Football video game. In order to do so, they have to reach out to 130 schools to learn more about their gameday traditions.
Virginia Tech’s football team runs out of the tunnel to Metallica’s Enter Sandman. Clemson’s football team rubs Howard’s Rock before running onto the field.
Every school has these unique traditions and EA intends to incorporate as many of them as they can in the game.
EA sent out a spreadsheet to every school requesting details on audio assets and how they are used. We know that at least 40 schools have sent back completed forms. At this point that number is likely much higher.
Here’s what that form looks like courtesy of Matt Brown:

A lot of these audio assets will include songs that EA will have to license in order to use them in the game. That process can take time.
That’s why it is so important that this process started early. In fact, the process started 2 years ago. There is still plenty of time between now and the expected July 2024 release date for any schools that have been slow to respond.
EA Sports is also requesting pictures/videos as well as sending out teams to college stadiums across the country in order to build 3D renderings of stadiums. They’ve visited the University of Florida’s football stadium twice already this year.
EA has offered all participating schools a total revenue share of 10%. Once the initial audio/visual data is collected, there won’t be much work for schools going forward. At that point it will just be a nice (even if fairly insignificant) royalty stream.
College football fans expect an authentic gameday experience and from what I can tell, it really looks like EA Sports is putting in the work to make their new game as realistic as possible.
