Today we are exploring the real reason EA Sports delayed the release of their new college football game until July 2024. Remember, it was widely speculated that the game would come out 1 year earlier in July 2023.
We found out a little more on this recently when Matt Brown sat down for a quick interview with The Solid Verbal College Football podcast.
For those of you who don’t constantly follow the development of College Football 25, Matt Brown is a reporter that’s been a leader in publishing developments surrounding the game.
Many people had speculated that the game was delayed because of licensing issues involving NIL.
While that is partly true, Brown revealed in the interview, that the main reason for the delay was simply because the game itself wasn’t ready.
It has been well over a decade since the last major college football video game has been released. And that was on the XBOX 360 and PlayStation 3.
We are now 2 console cycles later and it really isn’t as simple as just taking the old game and repurposing it for the XBOX Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
He noted that most of the old programmers who helped put together those older NCAA Football games have moved on from the company years ago.
Another important reason is that EA’s new College Football video game will be only be available on the next gen consoles. When it was decided that the game would be delayed (Fall 2022), there were still real issues with getting those new consoles.
That backlog is starting to ease up now but it makes a lot of sense from EA’s perspective to release the new college football game when everyone who wants to can play it.
The interview contains a few other tidbits that hardcore fans might find interesting. Give it a listen!
I figured EA wouldn’t be ready by 2023. Just look at the state of Madden right now.
Yeah that’s true. Hopefully the game is in good shape by next year.
Hopefully the delay means a better game and its nothing like the awfulness that has been madden recently
