The Heisman Trophy has confirmed that it will be in the upcoming EA Sports College Football 25 game.
While a handful of reports had hinted at this months ago, it’s still good to hear it directly from source.
It doesn’t seem like a coincidence that this announcement came on the same day that the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA) declined EA Sports’ offer to be included in the game via a report from On3.
According to an NCFAA spokesman, the offer Electronic Arts made, which was slightly above the offer they made in NCAA Football 14, didn’t properly value the importance of these awards.
The awards that will not be in the game include:
- Bednarik Award
- Biletnikoff Award
- Bronko Nagurski Trophy
- Broyles Award
- Burlsworth Trophy
- Butkus Award
- Davey O’Brien Award
- Doak Walker Award
- John Mackey Award
- Ray Guy Award
- Along with many others
EA’s logic was that the potential exposure for these awards, many of which are not household names, should be considered along with the monetary figure.
To say it is a questionable decision by the NCFAA to opt out would be an understatement. It will be fairly easy for EA Sports to just do generic awards in their place like “Best Quarterback” or “Best Linebacker.” In fact, that is already the plan.
Anyone who plays Madden’s franchise mode, knows how the generic end of season awards work and the gaming community seems quite content with it.
The NCFAA now joins Arch Manning as the two highest profile people/entities to officially opt out of the game.
Madden sales gonna drop tremendously.
There’s an excellent chance Madden sales slightly rise because of the college game.
especially if they bring back the ability to migrate draft classes over to madden
I think arch manning not opting in is a bigger statement than opting in. For someone that just wants to concentrate on football he has gotten a lot of attention for not opting in.. who wouldn’t want to be immortalized in a epic video game
The Heisman is all that really matters. The other awards, I don’t care about at all
